Advocacy at the Capitol

The Texas Hemp Coalition orchestrated “Hemp Day at the Capitol” in Texas, where dozens of our fellow business owners worked together to help shape our industry.

The day began with an address and conversation with Sid Miller, Commissioner of the Texas Department of Agriculture, and Representative Briscoe Cain, the Chair of the Agriculture and Livestock Committee. We then got to work! Methodically walking the Capitol halls to meet with nearly every Representative and Senate office to share our suggestions for Senate Bills 264 and 321.

Sid Miller has been a strong advocate for hemp legalization and the potential economic benefits it could bring to Texas. In 2019, he spearheaded efforts to establish a state hemp program after the federal legalization of hemp through the 2018 Farm Bill.

Miller has advocated for Texas farmers to take advantage of the new hemp industry, which he believes has the potential to create new jobs and boost the state's economy. He has also been a proponent of hemp as a potential alternative crop for Texas farmers facing economic challenges due to weather, trade disputes, and other factors.

In addition, Miller has pushed for the state to adopt more lenient regulations on hemp production and processing, arguing that overly restrictive regulations could stifle the growth of the industry. He has also been critical of federal regulations that he believes have hindered the growth of the hemp industry, such as the requirement for all hemp crops to be tested for THC levels.

We are fortunate and excited to be a part of this class-act organization, and we will do all we can to support the Texas Hemp Coalition.
